Jan. 20th, 2019 09:04 pmJust returned from a lovely 50th birthday party for Richard / Bella.
Attended by over 70 people, it was at the Museum Hill Cafe with an open bar, tons of desserts including a 3 layer birthday cake, loads of food, and a lot of FUN!
Learned a bit about Richard I didn't know before, AND met a lot of very nice people - great mix! I instigated singing "Happy Birthday".
Before that, Carol took me out to an early dinner at Mimis for my birthday - so nice of her.
And previous to that, I had a great morning here, interviewed Astra, and lovely drive to and from. Beautiful weather.
Loving life, enjoying myself, feeling happy and included.

London Fog
Jan. 20th, 2019 10:04 am"What is a London Fog drink and where did it originate?
London Fog is a hot drink with Earl Grey tea, milk, and a sweetener. It goes by more than a few names — Vancouver Fog, Vanilla Tea Misto, or just Earl Grey tea latte. It apparently originated in Vancouver and is a common drink in Washington and Oregon as well.
There are many variations on this drink, all with their own names: Calgary Fog that uses maple syrup, Dublin Fog replacing Earl Grey with irish breakfast tea, Maui Fog that uses coconut syrup, and many more variations that use different kinds of tea or syrup.
My version of London Fog is the usual Earl Grey tea with milk except I use almond milk to reduce carbs and calories and I avoid vanilla syrup by using a combination of vanilla extract and a low carb sweetener. The result is the same great taste, but healthier."
Earl Grey Tea: This is black tea flavored with bergamot oil, which is an essential oil produced by cold pressing the inside of a bergamot orange rind. You can buy this in supermarkets or online, and I don’t recommend substituting with another type of tea when making London Fog."

Outside the Theater
Jan. 19th, 2019 09:49 pmSo outside the theater, a woman who was sobbing, appeared cold, and seemed slightly developmentally disabled, was begging for money - "$40 for a room at the Motel 6 tonight". I walked past her, and when I got to the car, I had great concern for her, so I went back, and I offered to drive her to the Motel 6 and pay for her room for the night.
She refused. I went over this offer to her over and over - she was crying. I tried to get her to calm down, I told her I only wanted her to be safe. Finally after I made this offer to her over 7 or 8 times, I wished her well...
Then I went back and sought her out again on the street - I was in my car - I told her I wanted to make sure she was OK, I asked her to calm down and breath with me, I told her from my heart that I cared about her and not to give up - and repeated the offer multiple times. She said her husband was getting off work soon. And she "just needed $40) (I'd seen other people give her bills)
Finally I had to let it go and just write about it.

Jan. 16th, 2019 10:34 pmWow what a night! Stopped by the office to use the computer here.
Had a pedicure in the early evening, and headed down to park my car at the Kimo. Had some food at a cafe across the street, then walked over to the theatre in the coat Nancy gave me - I get so many compliments on it!
Spoke to some people around my seat - then the band came on - dynamite! When they invited women up on the stage to sign "I am Woman"! I was the first up - and I danced to some other songs too.
Very different show than the one at the Santa Fe opera - several special guests including EDNA VAZQUEZ who was outstanding amazing, got a standing ovation. I stood by her for "I am Woman" and she hugged me after the song.
AND went up and did a conga line to Brazil, their last song.
I had purchased the French songs CD, and I grabbed a set list as I left the stage, and I also got a copy of Edna's CD. I didnt realize they were doing a meet and greet and signing stuff.
Edna said "Thank you for supporting my Art" and I was speechless. OMG I would totally support Art. woo hoo
Really a wonderful energetic start to my birthday celebrations!

I would hold you all night
Jan. 13th, 2019 05:50 amWaking up before dawn
before the sun
before my alarm
"I would hold you all night"
is what made me get out of bed and type that line.
"I would hold you all night long"
"I would keep myself awake to be your protector, guardian, sentinel"
I think of those times,
nestled in a warm bed
feeling you closer to me...
"I would hold you all night long, our bodies entwined."
I think of those times, when poetry comes, when visions have held me all night long, when I'm not even aware of where we do not touch...
"I would hold you all night"
"I would hold you all"
"I would hold you, hold you, hold you"
not letting go
"I would hold
I would
I"

Autobiography, Memoir
Jan. 10th, 2019 07:54 amThe Michael Nesmith memoir is wonderful - thinking about why I love reading memoirs and autobiographies - so see what people overcame, the mistakes they (admitted) they made, the lessons they learned and the successes they achieved... It's exciting to see what a human chooses to distill and reduce to writing, and what I can glean from it.
I'd say that in addition to Nesmith's book, Graham Nash's memoir, and Jorma Kakonen's are stand-out, as well as Carole King's.
I think about this quite a bit - sometimes someone references diary notes for their writing, other times, people might have taken tape recorded interviews, etc. as sources (for themselves). I suspect most celebrities, musicians, have a ghostwriter or an editor that heavily assists, or not.
And I always am looking for the over-arching story.
Michael Nesmith was an only child of a single mother. And she became a super wealthy business person (liquid paper) and died at 56.
Trail blazers, rebels, people with a lot to overcome, miracles and accidents. All part of life. Love the little slices presented to me on the page.
Haiku? (upcoming weekend) I'm too wordy.
I need to do a double-stack Haiku with creamy filling in the middle.

Jan. 9th, 2019 04:01 pmI've declared today a "sick day" - felt some cold symptoms yesterday and immediately got some Yin Chaoi - works best if you take it right away, in copious amounts, in that first window of symptoms. Gratefully, the headache, feverishness, running nose, etc. is somewhat diminished this morning - I'm committed to knocking it OUT! Not a great idea for me to be in the office around people, and I can do a lot of my job on the phone and computer. PLUS I am setting up one of the feature Santa Fe Masterpiece Massage offices - please let your friends here know! Who wouldn't want a premier massage experience, with a pinon fire burning in the kiva fireplace?!?!?!

Jan. 9th, 2019 09:23 amAttempt to describe the sheer bliss of waking up in Casita Karlita, sun streaming in the window, and walking Lulu, patches of snow on the ground, adobe walls, laid-back vibe. My heart feels at home. Last night I opened a big trunk of rugs that I've traveled with - looking forward to selecting which ones will go where, on honeyed oak floors.
Casita Karlita
Dec. 30th, 2018 07:42 pmHere I am - been moving stuff this morning and tonight - I'm spending the night in the reading lair at Casita Karlita!
Tomorrow is New Year's Eve and I'll be in Albuquerque that night - through to activities on New Year's Day.
Sleeping on the floor on top of several glorious blankets - essentially made myself a pallet. I'll have my mattress and box spring moved up here - however not that bedroom set. May sell it.
When I came up here earlier, I ran a load of laundry and put it in the dryer - YIKES the dryer was still running when I arrived again at 7:15 PM - and the washer would not function - a lot of lights are not working either - I think it's a breaker. I tried them all in the electrical panel - no luck.
So grateful to have made a nest and chosen to hang out tonight... Loving this place.

Grief and Light
Dec. 26th, 2018 02:26 pmThis morning I went through many of my coats on racks at the office.
I had so many memories and lettings go.
A women's Swiss Army navy blue wool coat - never worn - a gift
The long tweed doublebreasted coat I wore on the Chunnel into Paris - I had a vintage rhinestone pin on it that somehow vanished...
A vintage leopard coat that never quite fit, and was a gift from a former partner
the Frost Brothers 1960s black cashmere coat (had a mink collar that I removed) that was my Grandmother's
and sitting in the living room when my parents brought it down to me as a surprise gift
brand new Pendleton men's bomber jacket I thought might fit me - it didn't
several other Pendleton coats - including a solid green one (too plain) and the long and short blue coats Susan and I wore last December, looking at wild horses...
and several other coats I still had tags on - too similar or not distinctive enough to keep - been schlepping them around for 25 years or so.
Then, on to my house, where I was loading up the car for tommorrow's consignment appointment in Santa Fe. As I was taking armloads out, my super delightful next door neighbor was out in her yard.
(For the noting of it - there was snow on the ground this morning - and it's bitter outside now.)
So I delighted and admired allll the gorgeous scarves I've assembled - breathtaking, stunning.
I went through everything - and sadly while there were several pieces that were destroyed by moths, there were some prizes that were untouched (and are now in the freezer!) and a few that could use a few small repairs yet I'm salvaging.
First I must say - I HAVE GREAT TASTE! WOW!!!!!
And I have soooo many gorgeous scarves! I must create outfits!
It's been an oddessy.
I am bringing the scarves up to the office to offer to several therapists.
Loving life, loving sharing, working through the feelings and grief. Into the LIGHT!

My own Mythology
Dec. 26th, 2018 12:52 pmStuffing my mouth
with
yesterday's leftover movie popcorn
I make my own Mythology
This greasy right hand
a half and hour before
was fondling cashmere
alpaca
fine wool and leather
sorting through 35 years of coats
loading up the back of my car
to deliver to the consignment shop tomorrow
It's the day after Christmas
Boxing Day
not entirely certain what that myth is
however I might create one
distant memory of the servants
changing places with the Lord and Lady
Today do I put on a white apron?
kneel and scrub the kitchen floor
change my name?
make my way to the carriage, loaded up with trunks, to pass the story on...

So I have this almost compelling desire to do postmortems on previous love affairs.
To delve into the bank of emails we sent back and forth.
To recapture that beginning when it felt sooooooooo good.
And wallow in the heart break.
Not once or twice, but back a decade or so, to revisit all that beautiful heartfelt writing that begins it, and the dark pain of the endings.
4 or more different lovers, and the paths we took.
Like some archaelogical dig
with bad poetry
