Outside the Theater

So outside the theater, a woman who was sobbing, appeared cold, and seemed slightly developmentally disabled, was begging for money - "$40 for a room at the Motel 6 tonight". I walked past her, and when I got to the car, I had great concern for her, so I went back, and I offered to drive her to the Motel 6 and pay for her room for the night.
She refused. I went over this offer to her over and over - she was crying. I tried to get her to calm down, I told her I only wanted her to be safe. Finally after I made this offer to her over 7 or 8 times, I wished her well...
Then I went back and sought her out again on the street - I was in my car - I told her I wanted to make sure she was OK, I asked her to calm down and breath with me, I told her from my heart that I cared about her and not to give up - and repeated the offer multiple times. She said her husband was getting off work soon. And she "just needed $40) (I'd seen other people give her bills)
Finally I had to let it go and just write about it.
